How do I care for custom printed apparel?

At Promosxchange, we ensure that all are garments are from the best manufacturers, undergo high quality control standards, have fabrics ideal for custom printing and preshrunk (to reduce further shrinkage in the wash). Beyond this, it’s imperative that you know the art to washing (and drying) custom printed apparel. Here are a few tips we have to share:

1. Turn your clothes inside out BEFORE you wash and dry them. This clever little manoeuvre will help prevent fading and to protect the imprint and embellishments.

2. Do not use bleach or other strong detergent products. You could use a stain remover on spots but try to steer clear away from bleach. Instead use a mild detergent to wash your custom printed apparel.

3. Give it the cold treatment. There’s really no reason to wash your clothes in hot water unless you have commercial grade equipment like hotels or hospitals. Cold water will get your clothes clean and it will be gentler on the fabric.

4. It might be tempting but do not put your clothes in a hot dryer. We cannot stress enough about not putting hot air on your custom printed clothing. Instead lay your clothing out for complete drying. Heat is probably the worst nemesis of custom printed apparel (and most clothes).

5. Let birds of a feather flock together; wash similar clothes together. Similar coloured clothing should be washed together; don’t let that occasional red sock sneak into your white wash and ruin your other clothing. Similar textured clothing should also be washed together as this will limit the amount of rubbing each apparel receives. Fabric rubbing is a quick way to create pills and custom printed items could crack and peel from too much friction. Ever tried rubbing a piece of sandpaper on your hand? That is how your t-shirt feels when it is washed with towels.
