With screen printing, the size of the design does not affect the cost so it's an economical way to print large designs. Production time is also typically faster for larger designs and the designs are lighter on clothing. Fine details are able to be achieved and a four colour print process can give the illusion of a full colour photo.
One of the drawbacks of screen printing is that it is more expensive for designs comprising of several colours if your order quantity is low as each colour requires a separate screen set-up. Printing light colours on dark garments can be expensive as an extra white base is often required. More care needs to be taken with screen printed designs. They should not be directly ironed on and such clothing should not be put in the dryer due to the adverse reaction to heat.
