T-shirts are most popularly made of cotton or polyester fibers (or a mix of the two). In fact, polyester and cotton account for more than 85% of the global fibre market. Making the choice between cotton vs poly for your t shirt printing really depends on what you’re looking for in a shirt for your t shirt printing. Most trade industries and schools, like poly blends because they don’t want shrinkage when the shirts are washed. Poly fabrics are also wrinkle or iron free so if you hate ironing just as much as I do then poly shirts are the way to go. 100% cotton shirts will always be a cooler shirt to wear in a hot climate compared to basic polyesters (like those used in most 50/50 poly cotton blends) which don’t breathe as well as natural fibres in cotton. However, there are advanced polyesters that wick moisture and are in fact better than cotton like the Stencils’ and Australian Spirit’s range of cooldry 100% poly t shirts. Due to their higher quality, these usually cost more than your 100% cotton t shirts so consider this when you’re setting a budget for your t shirt printing. Poly t shirts will also usually hold their color better than 100% cotton t shirts and less fading (of screen printed image and the fabric itself). But if you’re looking for a great colour range for your shirts, there are more colors available in 100% cotton t shirts.

Transfer pad printing, commonly known as pad printing is a popular printing method for products of odd shapes, and sizes as they can be printed on without any sacrifice to detail. This method of printing is used for smaller sized promotional products such as promotional pens, mugs, stress items etc. Artwork required for quality printing are either vector EPS or Adobe Illustrator AI files and to size of the print area. Text must be converted to outlines. Images need to be at least 300dpi and either embedded or supplied as separate files. If all this sounds like a lot of technical jargon, don’t worry. PromosXchange provides free text artwork and free artwork enhancement for printing onto promotional products if you do not have your file in the correct format for quality print. This saves you $60 – $100 of what you’ll be charged from most other promotional products companies. The print area for pad printing is not large as it’s limited by plate, pad and efficiency of the machine and the size of the item being pad printed. So refrain from writing a thesis by using long lines of text and complex logos. Keep your artwork for pad printing simple. What works best is a very simple logo and short text. Anything else is an overkill.

When I look around, it’s amazing how many people use promotional tote bags. I reckon the most popular types are the Coles shopping tote bag or Supre’s short handle promotional tote bags. There are a few reasons why promotional tote bags are so popular as an advertising tool. The screen printing area on the promotional tote bags is large so it’s value for your advertising dollar. Tote bags are environmentally friendly so you send a positive message about your brand. They are cheap yet trendy. There’s low cost per impression as bags are used frequently which means maximum exposure of your brand. There are different styles of tote bags, eg. short handle tote bags, long handle tote bags, economy tote bags, slings tote bags, shopping tote bags and they also come with or without a gusset. Basically, gusset bags have sides which expand which allows you to pack more into the bag. Available in bright colours at great prices, the PromosXchange promotional tote bags are fast becoming the preferred accessory to get the maximum exposure for your brand.

I’ve got to say, I am a great supporter of Obama. Not because he’s now President of the United States but because he and his marketing campaign people had the sense to know the value of promotional products. His campaign’s investment into promotional products was a factor in getting him out there and into the President’s spot so obviously they know the power of promotional products. According to opensecret.org, Barack Obama spent double the amount of money on promotional items like promotional badges, promotional t shirts and promotional signs than John Mc Cain who shamefully did badly with the votes. Who can forget the promotional t shirts with Obama’s face worn by Hollywood celebrities like Oprah? So there you go, if party candidates and the President of the United States can’t do without promotional items, I don’t think you can afford not to afford promotional products for your marketing campaigns. Hmm…I might run for Mayor of Melbourne myself using all our promotional gear:))

Getting the right sizes for promotional clothing tops for your staff or team is only confusing if you don’t know how to advise them on how to get the correct measurements. As sizes for all promotional clothing tops might vary, it’s always best to start off by getting a size chart from your promotional clothing distributor. Bear in mind that different people prefer a different fit for different types of tops. For instance, I love a tight fit for printed t-shirts but prefer a looser fit for embroidered polos. My friend on the other hand, loves all her printed t shirts and embroidered polos as tight fitting as possible so she loves getting the kids’ printed t shirts and embroidered polos. Oversize clothing ie. 3XL and above often cost more. Unisex tops are cheaper. However, they have a square cut and are often too big for smaller framed bodies. The perfect fit might not matter so much if the tops are going to be used as promotional giveaways and for one off events unlike if they were to be worn long term for staff members. The best way to get your team or staff the right sizes for tops such as printed t shirts and embroidered polos is to ask them to lay a top (that they’re comfortable in) flat and measure the length from under one armpit to the other armpit in centimetres. This measurement is known as the chest measurement or half chest. They can then match this measurement to measurements on the clothing size chart to see which size is a closer match. See how simple it really is?

So you’ve chosen the promotional products you need. What next? Well, you’ve got to have quality artwork for quality print. The preferred format in the promotional industry for all graphics files for print on promotional products are either vector EPS or Adobe Illustrator AI files. Text must be converted to outlines. Placed images need to be either embedded or supplied as separate files. Sounds like too much technical jargon to you? Well, it most likely is if you’re not a graphic designer. If your artwork is not supplied in the correct format, most promotional companies charge you anywhere between $60 to $100 to reillustrate your artwork and make it ready for print on promotional products. However, PromosXchange gives you FREE Artwork Enhancement meaning you don’t have to pay to reillustrate your artwork for print on promotional products. Even if you don’t have artwork but require text only for print on promotional products, PromosXchange will do it for free.
